Booking an Appointment in Person
If you need a GP or nurse appointment please contact the surgery to do so. It is not always possible to offer appointments to patients who turn up at the reception desk without an appointment booked.
We see patients by appointment only. Our aim is for you to see a doctor within 48 hours to meet NHS guidelines whether your appointment is urgent or not.
Please telephone the practice at 8.00 am. You will be given an appointment that morning or be put through to a doctor or nurse. They will give you advice over the telephone or ask you to attend the surgery.
Appointment duration is 10 minutes and appointments are for one person only.
We aim to see you within 30 minutes of your appointment time. But, delays can occur, in particular, where a doctor has to leave the surgery to attend an emergency visit.
If you are unable to keep your appointment let us know as soon as possible so we can offer it to someone else. It is your responsibility to cancel unwanted appointments.
If a patient wishes to speak to the doctor or nurse, we will book a telephone consultation slot. The doctor or nurse will contact you.
Unattended Appointments
There is a significant cost to the practice and to other patients if a patient does not attend their appointment. We are committed to providing appointments to meet the needs of patients but cannot replace appointments lost due to failure to attend.
Evening and Weekend Appointments, Extended Access
We are working with some of our Local Practices, to offer extra later appointments, as well as weekend appointments.
Extended GP access service is accessible 7 days per week. If you need an appointment please enquire with the reception team.
All GP Surgeries across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood can now offer evening and weekend routine GP appointments. These appointments are available to all residents who are registered with a GP Practice in Mid Nottinghamshire.
The appointment may not take place at your usual GP surgery, but at another nearby. Your GP surgery will be able to provide you with more information about the location at the time of booking.
Appointments are available up to 8pm on a weekday, Saturdays mornings and Sundays from 9am to 1pm.
Please note: Sunday appointments are currently only available at Sherwood Medical Practice. It is off Chesterfield Road very close to the Civic Centre. Free car parking is available. There is a pharmacy next to the surgery, which is open until 10pm 7 days per week. The surgery is accredited as Dementia friendly, has disability access and is within easy reach of the town centre. We are currently working with partners to look at possibilities in Newark and further information will be available on our websites shortly.
Please note that these appointments are for non-emergencies and are pre-bookable only.
If you find that you no longer need your appointment please cancel it so that we can offer it to other patients.
For further information please speak to your GP Surgery. A frequently asked questions information sheet has been produced in partnership with some of our practice managers and GPs and can be found here (PDF, 82KB).

Home Visits
We have a home visiting policy for patients who are elderly, immobile or deemed by the doctor too ill to attend surgery. To request a home visit where possible you need to telephone the Practice before 10.00 am. Please give details and a brief description of the problem to enable the doctor to determine how urgent it is.
A doctor or nurse may telephone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice. Or it might appropriate to send a nurse or arrange a hospital attendance.
Remember, each home visit takes four or five times as long as a surgery consultation. We appreciate if patients try as hard as possible to come to the Practice. Visits are at the discretion of the Doctors.
Telephone & Video Consultations
Telephone: 01623 656055
The doctors are happy to discuss problems with you over the phone or via video consultation.
For routine advice; patients can speak to a doctor at the end of morning surgery or before evening surgery. If the doctor is busy when you call, the receptionist may take your telephone number so that the doctor can call you back. It can help to give the receptionist an idea of what the problem is.
